What is BESH?

  • KU Research Institute for Business and Economics in Service of Humanity (BESH) was formally established in January 2019. The aim of BESH is to develop, publish and elevate collaborative, interdisciplinary research in Business and Economics that address urgent challenges facing humanity. These include challenges and topics in health, education, financial well-being, migration, responsible consumption, digitization and the labor market, and the development of smart and sustainable service offerings. BESH is an initiative of four professors at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the WFI Ingolstadt School of Management: Prof. Alexander Danzer (Chair of Microeconomics), Prof. Jens Hogreve (Chair of Service Management), Prof. Shashi Matta (Chair of Innovation and Creativity) and Prof. Simon Wiederhold (Chair of Macroeconomics).



  • BESH Legacy Award Recipient

     

    Professor David W. Stewart, Professor of Marketing and Law at Loyola Marymount University (Los Angeles, USA), was the Inaugural Recipient of the BESH Legacy Award for his impactful and sustained contribution to research that informs policy and serves society. Professor Stewart made a compelling speech on Privacy at the award ceremony on November 13, 2019 at the Historic City Hall in Ingolstadt where Ingolstadt Mayor Dr. Christian Lösel conferred him with this award.


    First Annual Research Symposium

    The First Annual BESH Research Symposium was held on Wednesday 26, June 2019, at the WFI campus in Ingolstadt. The inaugural symposium featured four international scholars who presented their current research.

    ·         - Dr. Ghazala Azmat (Professor of Economics at Science Po in Paris): Understanding Gender Gaps among Young Professionals.

    ·         - Dr. Lisa Brüggen (Professor for Financial Services at Maastricht University): Using Investment and Assurance Frames to Encourage Retirement Information Search.

    ·         - Dr. Ricardo Perez-Truglia (Assistant Professor of Economics at UCLA, Anderson School of Management): The Effects of Income Transparency on Well-Being: Evidence from a Natural Experiment.

              - Dr. John Saldanha (Professor for Global Supply Chain Management at West Virginia University): Building Sustainable Food Supply Chains.

    ·         - Professors Azmat, Brüggen, Perez-Truglia and Saldanha were formally inducted as BESH Research Fellows.

    KU Research Institute for Business and Economics in Service of Humanity (BESH) was introduced to the public at a Grand Launch Event on Wednesday 26, June 2019. President of KU, Prof. Dr. Gabriele Gien, and honorable Mayor of Ingolstadt, Dr. Christian Lösel, formally launched BESH. Each of the four co-founders, Prof. Dr. Alexander Danzer, Prof. Dr. Jens Hogreve, Prof. Dr. Shashi Matta, and Prof. Dr. Simon Wiederhold talked about what BESH means to each of them and charted a future course for this young and ambitious research institute.



  • Call for Papers

    Doctoral Research Award 2020

    BESH is pleased to invite applications for the First Annual BESH Doctoral Research Award from doctoral candidates in the fields of Business or Economics. BESH will award three prizes for top doctoral research (cash prices of 1500 EUR, 1000 EUR, and 500 EUR). The topic for this year’s BESH Doctoral Research Award is Well-Being.     First BESH Doctoral Consortium

    The First Annual BESH Doctoral Consortium will feature a small and intimate setting for young researchers to interact and discuss their research with successful, internationally renowned, research professors and participate in sessions on the publication process, crafting original research, and developing a research pipeline. The consortium will also feature a poster session for young researchers, and, a networking reception. The Consortium will take place at WFI Ingolstadt School of Management, KU, Germany, on Thursday, May 28, 2020. Applicants interested in attending the doctoral consortium are required to pay a modest participation fee of 100 EUR, and make their own travel and accommodation arrangements.

    We’re excited to announce the stellar line up of internationally renowned scholars who will headline the Second Annual BESH Research Symposium s – Prof. Aline Bütikofer (NHH Bergen), Prof. Andrew Clark (PSE Paris), and Prof. Vanessa Patrick (University of Houston). The Symposium will be hosted at our campus, WFI – Ingolstadt School of Management, KU, Germany, on Friday, May 29, 2020, the day after the BESH Doctoral Consortium.

                                    



  • Alexander Danzer is Professor and Chair of Microeconomics at WFI Ingolstadt School of Management at KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. His main research interest is labour and development economics, with a special focus on social policy, pensions, labour supply, preferences as well as migration.   • Jens Hogreve is Professor and Chair of Service Management at WFI Ingolstadt School of Management at KU Eichstätt-Ingolstadt. His main research interests are services marketing, service profit chain, service failure and recovery, and service guarantees. His research has been published in the Journal of Marketing, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Service Research, and other journals.
