Pre-semester Intensive German (A1.1 - B2.1)

Course description

Exchange students of all programs and international students of English-language degree programs who must achieve and prove German A2 within the first year of study.

Information on the course structure for students of English-language degree programs

  • 280.00 EUR for exchange and regular degree seeking students of the KU, 330.00 EUr for free movers
  • additional cost for course materials (approximately 40.00 EUR) 
  • Erasmus+ students receive a partial refund of 150.00 EUR if they successfully attend the course
  • ISEP-students: the course fee is included in the ISEP benefits
  • students of the German-French double-degree program in Political Science (from the IEP Rennes) receive a refund of 100% if they successfully attend the course

Once you have registered, you will receive an invoice for the course fees approx. 8 weeks before the start of the course, which you can pay by Paypal or bank transfer.

Q-Course (A1 - Preparatory Course for the Intensive German Language Course)

Description
  • The Q course precedes the 8-month Intensive German Language Course in preparation for the DSH. The course objective of the Q course is a completed A1 level.
  • Course dates 2024: 26 August - 7 October 2024
  • Module 1: 26 August - 13 September 2024
    Module 2: 16 September - 7 October 2024
  • Course fees: 500.00 EUR (for both modules) for students with KU admission, 450.00 per module for other participants

Target group
  • Applicants who wish to pursue a degree at the KU, but do not yet have the required German language proficiency for admission to the Intensive German Language Course (which prepares for the DSH)

Intensive German Language Course (preparation for DSH)

Description:
  • This course lasts two semesters and always starts in the winter semester. The minimum entry requirement is a completed A1 level, which must be proven by an entrance test.

  • KU students with conditional admission to a German-language BA program 
  • Exchange students and free movers can NOT take part in this course.
  • Prerequisite: completed A1 level  (will be checked by entrance test)

Intensive German (2 semesters)

Course description

This course offer is available to selected partner universities of the KU and is limited. Students who wish to participate must be nominated by their partner university. 

The Intensive German Language Course prepares students for the DSH exam (German Language Test for Admission to Higher Education for Foreign Applicants). The exam can be taken at the KU and entitles you to study at the KU; as a rule, other German universities also accept the DSH certificate. With DSH level 2 you can choose any subject. A language level according to CEFR cannot be certified separately. Exchange students receive a Transcript of Records for 40 ECTS if they successfully complete a course.  Depending on the timetable, it is also possible to take other courses (e.g. English-language seminars in the faculties) 

Course duration: Mid-October to the beginning of July of the following year (8 months)

Prerequisites for participation:

  • German A1 must already be completed (will be checked via an entrance test) 
  • Nomination by the sending partner university
Target group
  • Exchange students from selected partner universities who wish to achieve a high level of German within a short period of time
  • Exchange students who are planning to continue their studies in Germany
Course fees
  • 500,00 EUR Course fee per semester
  • 78,00 EUR semester fee per semester
  • approx. 50.00 EUR teaching materials per semester

    Total costs approx. 1,250.00 EUR (as of May 23, 2024)
Registration
  • Students must be nominated by their home university before 15th May of each year

Summer School

Description:
  • The KU Summer School is our premium German course in July/August and combines intensive German learning with regional studies and literature as well as an attractive and varied social program.
